Första person singular: min (en), mitt (ett), mina (plural)
'My / mine': agrees with the possessed noun (min, mitt, mina)
📌 Grammatiknotering
'Min' (my/mine) inflects according to the grammatical gender and number of the noun owned: min bil (en-word), mitt hus (ett-word), mina böcker (plural).
Exempel
Andra person singular: din (en), ditt (ett), dina (plural)
'Your / yours (singular)': din, ditt, dina
📌 Grammatiknotering
Like 'min', singular 'din' (your/yours) agrees with the noun that follows: din väska (en-word), ditt namn (ett-word), dina vänner (plural).
Exempel
Tredje person singular (oböjliga): hans, hennes, hens, dess
Invariable third-person possessives: his, her, their (neutral), its
📌 Grammatiknotering
Because 'hans' (his), 'hennes' (her), 'hens' (their - gender-neutral), and 'dess' (its) already end in genitive '-s', they NEVER change for en-words, ett-words, or plurals!
Exempel
Första person plural: vår (en), vårt (ett), våra (plural)
'Our / ours': vår, vårt, våra
📌 Grammatiknotering
'Vår' (our/ours) agrees in gender and number with the possessed noun: vår lägenhet (en-word), vårt kök (ett-word), våra grannar (plural).
Exempel
Andra person plural: er (en), ert (ett), era (plural)
'Your / yours (plural)': er, ert, era
📌 Grammatiknotering
When addressing more than one person ('ni'), the possessive 'er' inflects for the noun: er lärare (en-word), ert klassrum (ett-word), era böcker (plural).
Exempel
Tredje person plural (oböjligt): deras
'Their / theirs': deras (invariable)
📌 Grammatiknotering
'Deras' (their/theirs) ends in '-s' and never changes form, regardless of whether the possessed noun is an en-word, an ett-word, or plural.
Exempel
Substantivet står ALLTID i obestämd form efter possessivt pronomen
Nouns after possessives are ALWAYS in the indefinite form
📌 Grammatiknotering
A possessive pronoun makes the noun phrase definite by itself, so the noun must NEVER take the suffixed definite article: min bok (not min boken), vårt hus (not vårt huset), mina vänner (not mina vännerna).
Exempel
Adjektiv efter possessiva pronomen får alltid -a
Adjectives after a possessive always take the definite -a ending
📌 Grammatiknotering
Even though the noun after a possessive is indefinite, any adjective between the possessive and the noun MUST take the definite '-a' form (or 'lilla' for 'liten'): mitt nya hus, min gamla bil, hans lilla barn.
Exempel
Självständig användning (Den är min / Det är mitt)
Standalone possessives ('mine, yours, ours, theirs'): identical forms!
📌 Grammatiknotering
Swedish has no separate words for 'mine, yours, hers, ours, theirs'. The exact same forms (min/mitt/mina, din/ditt/dina, hans, hennes, vår/vårt/våra, er/ert/era, deras) stand alone without a noun.
Exempel
Genitiv med -s på namn och substantiv: Annas bok, bilens färg
Possessive -s on nouns and names (no apostrophe!)
📌 Grammatiknotering
Possession with names and nouns is formed by adding '-s' directly without an apostrophe: Annas bil, Sveriges huvudstad, barnens leksaker. Just like after possessives, the following noun is indefinite.
