Ik wacht even. 'Hallo?' zeg ik zachtjes. Een jonge man komt glimlachend tevoorschijn. 'Goedendag! Eén bed in kamer acht. Heeft u een bevestiging?' Ik knik en geef hem mijn telefoon. 'Even kijken,' zegt hij. 'Ja, alles klopt!'

Let's pause our story for a moment to look at some useful Dutch words and phrases from that scene.

  • receptie – reception, Ik ga naar de receptie.
  • Kan ik u helpen? – Can I help you?, De medewerker vraagt: Kan ik u helpen?
  • een reservering – a reservation, Ik heb een reservering.
  • het paspoort – the passport, Waar is mijn paspoort?

'Prima!
