Let's pause our story for a moment to look at some key words and phrases from that scene.

  • die Lichterkette — the string of lights, Die Lichterkette leuchtet hell.
  • etwas dauert — something takes time, Das Schmücken dauert lange.
  • die Kugel — the bauble/ornament, Die rote Kugel ist schön.
  • die Spitze — the top/star (for a tree), Die Spitze kommt ganz nach oben., Und jetzt zurück zu unserer Geschichte!

— I carry the Christmas tree into the living room.
  • Ich wickle die Lichterkette um die Äste. — I wrap the string of lights around the branches.
