Sie fahren auf der Autobahn. Plötzlich sehen Sie ein Schild: Mautstelle. Was machen Sie?

Let's pause our journey for a moment to look at some useful words from that scene.

  • Mautpflichtig — subject to toll, ein Schild ist mautpflichtig.
  • die Mautstelle — the toll booth, Ich sehe die Mautstelle.
  • ich fahre langsamer — I drive slower, Ich fahre langsamer, weil es Verkehr gibt.
  • ich muss warten — I must wait, Ich muss warten, bis das Auto fährt.
  • die Schranke — the barrier/gate, Die Schranke ist geschlossen.
  • ich halte an — I stop, Ich halte an der Mautstelle an., Verstanden? Gut!

— I am driving on the highway.
  • Ich sehe ein Schild: Mautpflichtig. — I see a sign: Subject to toll.
  • Ich muss warten. — I must wait.
  • Eine nette Frau sitzt drin. — A nice woman is sitting inside.
  • Drei Euro fünfzig, bitte. — Three Euro fifty, please.
  • Hier ist Ihr Wechselgeld. — Here is your change., Sehr gut gemacht!
