Liguei a chave e… nada! O motor não ligou. Tentei de novo, de novo. Nada! Fiquei um pouco preocupado. Pensei: 'Preciso levar o carro à oficina.' Um homem, o mecânico, veio me atender. Ele perguntou: 'Bom dia. Posso ajudar?'

Let's pause our story for a quick look at some key vocabulary we just heard.

  • barulho — noise, O carro fez um barulho estranho.
  • ligar — to turn on/start (a car), Meu carro não ligou.
  • oficina — mechanic shop/workshop, Preciso levar o carro à oficina.
  • ajudar — to help, Posso ajudar você?
  • velho — old, Meu carro é velho.

Ele me deu um preço e eu concordei. No Brasil, é comum pedir um orçamento antes do serviço. Ele disse: 'Volte em uma hora.' Uma hora depois, o carro estava consertado! Ufa! Que alívio!
